The Troy City Council and Mayor Jimmy Lunsford began their meeting Tuesday night with a proclamation declaring this week Hope for You Festival Week in support of the Scott Dawson Hope for You Festival scheduled for Thursday through Sunday.

"It's pleasing to me that the community and the Ministerial Association decided to put forth the effort to bring this crusade here to Troy," the mayor said.

Lunsford presented the framed proclamation to the Rev. Steve Rascoe of Park Memorial Methodist Church and Mike Greer, festival director for the Scott Dawson Evangelical Association, which is based in Birmingham.

During their short meeting, the council was reminded that three nominations for appointments to the Board of Equalization were due before August 15.

The council also tabled Resolution 623, a bid award for a Troy industrial access road near KW Plastics.

Although a low and responsible bid had been made on the project, the council felt it needed to investigate an additional bid before making a decision.

Council members did, however, take action on Resolution 624, giving the mayor complete authority to take any action necessary to discontinue the operation of electronic video gambling machines.

The resolution was added to the agenda just before the meeting because the mayor felt action needed to be taken as soon as possible.

The council agreed with a unanimous vote passing the resolution.

Councilman Jason Reeves said that as of Tuesday afternoon the council had the support of the district attorney's office.

In his closing comments, the mayor congratulated KW Plastics for being nationally recognized as one of the best and largest sellers of recycled plastics.

He also extended a welcome home to all of Troy's servicemen and women and noted that the city will sponsor a patriotic salute to all the veterans on WTBF during the week of July 4th.
