Trojans receive more honors

The honors for a group of Trojans just keep on pouring in.

Charles Henderson baseball players Brett Pierce, Blake Phelps, Pete Van Horn and Matt Johnson have been honored by several publications and groups, but they were honored again recently.

The Alabama Baseball Coaches Association selected the foursome for the South team, scheduled to play in a round robin tournament July 20 and 21. A total of 160 players tried out for the 25-man roster.

The tournament will feature four teams from different regions of Alabama and will be played on the campus of Birmingham-Southern College.

Pierce and Phelps were selected as infielders, and Johnson and Van Horn will be going as pitchers. This will be Pierce's second trip to the tournament. All four Trojans will return next season.

The list of Charles Henderson accolades has been long this season. Pierce was also selected as first-team all state at second base, the Metro-Montgomery all are team and the ABCA South region team.

Clint Pugh was named honorable mention all state, the Dothan Eagle Super 12 and the All-Metro team as well.

Van Horn also made the Montgomery All-Metro team and was selected to play for the South squad in the All-Star Sports Week in July in addition to the ABCA team. The All-Star Sports Week is scheduled for July 14-19 and will be held in Montgomery. All sports will be involved in the event in which North and South will square off.

Johnson was named honorable mention all-state, named to the Dothan Super 12 and the ABCA team.
