Banks Elementary gets donation

Regions Bank President Kim Edwards presented Banks Primary School first grade teacher Robin Fortner with a donation to help the school fund its Accelerated Math and Accelerated Reading programs.

The money will be used to by ink cartridges to print out the daily reports for each student.

Principal Jackie Hall said additional funding from outside sources is critical, especially now that the state's budget is far from adequate.

And, even though Pike County Schools is in better shape than many Alabama systems, Hall said that to enrich the school's programs funds from outside sources are often necessary.

"We want to enrich the education of our students," Hall said.

"To do that, we need to try to get additional funds from other sources."

Edwards said she was pleased to be able to make the contribution.

"We feel it is important to support these accelerated programs for future generations," she said.

This is the seventh year Regions has donated to the school.
