Saturday's Troy Fest promises to be a day of sunshine, festivities, and crowds of pedestrians.

Troy Police Department Captain Grady Wiggins said motorists passing through downtown Troy should take extra precaution.

"There will be a lot of pedestrians in large crowds," he said.

"People traveling should give themselves plenty of time to arrive at their destinations."

Wiggins said the festivities and carnival will attract a large number of children, and motorists should take extra caution and be on the lookout for them.

Police officers will be on hand to help with traffic and crowd control.

"The pedestrian traffic shouldn't be a hindrance," he said.

"We just want people to be careful."

In addition to more people traffic, several roads will be closed that may alter the routes of people coming through downtown.

The portions of Elm Street, Oak Street and Church Street that surround the square downtown will be closed to vehicular traffic and parking.

Market Street, Walnut Street and Three Notch Street will remain open.

"It should not be too much of an inconvenience," Wiggins said.

"Detours shouldn't be for more than a block."

Wiggins also said plenty of parking will be available by the courthouse, on side streets and next to First United Methodist Church.

He added that police will start restricting parking around the square Friday afternoon.

Booths and vendors will occupy those parking spaces on Saturday.
