City workers hung a sign yesterday supporting the troops over in the desert. It's in the vacant lot right across from the police department.

The Friends of the Library put "yellow ribbon t-shirts" on sale this week, and people were buying them up.

The Pike County Chamber of Commerce began distributing complimentary yellow ribbons tacked with American flags.

Yellow ribbons adorn front doors throughout the county.

People all over Pike County are showing their support for our troops, and the trend is gaining strength.

It's obvious that people want to do something – anything – that demonstrates our affection for the American men and women who have bravely answered Duty's call.

We cannot more strongly endorse these actions. It brings us together as a community and it offers great encouragement to the families of those military men and women who are away from their homes.

To all those organizations and individuals who are promoting these outward displays of support, we offer our thanks.

We encourage everyone to do their part, whatever that part may be. Tie a yellow ribbon around your old oak tree. Fly the American Flag from your home or office.

The world will see our commitment to the troops, but more importantly our military families will know that they and their loved ones remain in our hearts and prayers.
