A reception held last night in Troy State University's Malone Gallery of Fine Arts signaled the start of a week-long exhibit of artwork from Troy City Schools.

Troy Elementary art teacher Lisa Patterson said the walls are covered with artwork and extra panels were brought in to display it all.

The elementary school alone has over 400 pieces on display.

&uot;I try to send in as much as I can to represent as many students as possible,&uot; Patterson said.

The exhibit showcases the art of students from first through 12th grade.

Patterson said the annual event is much-anticipated affair during the year.

&uot;To go into a gallery setting and see their artwork on display is a special thing,&uot; she said.

&uot;I think it really builds their self-esteem and it reaches out to the community and makes them aware of the talent these students have.&uot;

Patterson said the exhibit would not be possible without the cooperation and support of Troy State and city school officials year after year.

The exhibit will be open to the public this week from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., but will be dismantled Friday morning.

&uot;It's such a great way to showcase student art,&uot; Patterson said.

&uot;To have it displayed in such a special setting is exciting for me, for the students and for the parents.&uot;
