Troy State baseball sweeps Michigan State

Due to severe weather, the final game of the three-game weekend series between Troy State and Michigan State at Riddle-Pace Field was cancelled on Sunday afternoon.

The Trojans improved to 9-4, winning their last six games, after defeating the Spartans in the first two games of the series, 5-4 and 5-4, on Friday and Saturday. Michigan State opened its season in Troy and fell to 0-2.

Seniors Mickey Oquinn and Jason Bernard earned the wins on the mound for the Trojans. Friday’s game was Oquinn’s second win for the season, while Bernard improves to 4-0 with three complete games in five appearances.

Troy State is in action again on Tuesday when it plays host to Southern Mississippi at 6:30 p.m. at Riddle-Pace Field. The Trojans will then be in Dothan next weekend for the 2001 Wiregrass Baseball Classic. Troy State will face Vanderbilt, Purdue and St. John’s in the tournament at Westgate Park. The Trojans play Purdue at 5 p.m. on Friday.
