TSU’s Morgan named Valley Co-Player of the Week

HARRISONBURG, Va. – Troy State junior Justin Morgan was named the Valley Baseball League’s Co-Player of the Week by the league office on Tuesday.

Since the 40-game schedule began on June 7, Morgan has seen time in left field, at designated hitter and as the closer for the Luray (Va.) Wranglers. He is leading the team and the league with a .480 batting average. He also has three runs scored, two doubles and seven RBIs in six starts. In Luray’s back-to-back shutouts of New Market on Friday and Saturday, Morgan was a combined 4-for-8 at the plate with an RBI and run scored, while picking up his second save of the season on Saturday. On the mound, he has a league-leading two saves and a 1.59 ERA in 5.2 innings of work.

Morgan recently completed his junior year at Troy State where he led the Trojans with three saves and appeared in 19 games. Prior to last season, the Montgomery, Ala., native was a pitcher and third baseman at Wallace State Community College in Selma, Ala.

Morgan is one of eight Troy State players currently on three different Valley League rosters. There are 14 current Trojans playing in various NCAA-sanctioned wooden bat leagues around the country.
