Earles Glass loaded with experience

It is unusual to find a small, local shop that has as much to offer as Earles Glass does. It is equally unusual to find one with as much experience and specific training dedicated to customer safety.

With many thousands of windshield installative experience and having been tested by the Sylvan learning system, Daniel Earles is certified by the National Glass Association as a Master Glass technician and by Dow Chemical in the proper use of windshield retentive adhesive. Currently, he is working on certification by the Sika Adhesives Corporation. There are over 13,000 certified technicians in the U.S., but less than 10 shops in the entire state of Alabama with trained installers.

Johnathan Earles spent six months as an apprentice learning to do custom wall mirrors, insulated windows and all other types of glass work for residential or commercial usage at one of the state’s largest glass shops in Alabama. He also graduated from Ford Motor Company’s windshield/safe glass schools in Michigan. Ford’s safety standards, by far, excel those of the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration.

According to Congressional estimates, there are roughly 9,000 people killed every year because of windshield accidents. Earles Glass is one of the few shops in this part of the country that is certified by the National Glass Association. There are only 5 shops in Alabama with certified glass installers.

Rusty at Earles Glass said not too long ago, he was asked if his windshields were any better than that of a competitor. He knew that both windshields were the same name brand, so he answered, &uot;No, mine is no better.&uot; &uot;Here lies the problem,&uot; said Earles, &uot;the customer’s concept of one glass being better than another is wrong because there are differences in quality, but all glass sold in the U.S. must meet Department of Transportation standards.&uot;

&uot;To other shops, it is just another dollar when they do a job, but to me it is a commitment,&uot; said Earles. Earles has been in the glass business since September 8, 1971, and he stresses safety in his work, and the quality of the installer as much, if not more so, than the glass. Earles said that he is tired of seeing dangerous work.
