Tonight’s Relay for Life celebrates hope
Published 12:00 am Friday, May 17, 2002
Hundreds of Pike County residents will gather together tonight to fight a noble fight – the fight against cancer.
The Pike County Relay for Life event begins at 5 p.m. at the Troy State University soccer fields, and continues for 12 hours with activities, fellowship, fun and, yes, poignant moments for all.
The event is a fund-raiser for the American Cancer Society, and Pike County has been recognized among the top per capita campaigns in the nation.
That tells us simply that Pike County residents are passionate about helping fight this battle, and they are willing to put their time, their treasures and their talents into that fight.
It’s a noble cause; cancer touches each of us, at some point in our lives. From friends, to family members to ourselves, we can all name someone who has been a victim of this disease. And we can all share the pain it causes, both emotionally and physically.
Tonight, though that pain is present, so is hope and fellowship. We’ll salute the survivors, those who are in the battle and those who have won it, and we’ll share laughs as we raise money to help fight the battles ahead.
We hope each of you will be there to join us.
