Family fun is on tap this weekend with the annual Pike County Cattlemen’s Association Street Dance.
The dance takes place Saturday from 7 to 11 p.m. on the Square in downtown Troy.
"The kids get out there and dance and have a good time, and so do Mama and Daddy," said Mike Griffin, president of the Cattlemen’s Association.
The event is a warm-up to the association’s annual rodeo, which takes place May 25 and 26 at Cattlemen’s Park.
"The street dance is more to get people in the mood and get people loosened up" for the rodeo, Griffin said.
With the cooperation of city and police officials, the downtown square will be closed to vehicle traffic for the event. Tables – for sale at $100 each – will be available for large groups or businesses. "But anyone is welcome," Griffin said. "Admission is free, and a lot of people bring folding chairs or blankets to spread out on the grass …
"We encourage people to bring a chair and a picnic dinner."
Entertainment will be provided by the band "Kickin’." "Some members of this band have been with us for several years," Griffin said. "They’re a versatile band … and the entertainment that will be provided will be very clean and family-oriented."
Snacks and refreshments will be available, and the Cattlemen’s Association will recognize the winner of its annual rodeo poster contest during the street dance. "We’ll also have our Mr. and Miss Rodeo on hand," Griffin said.
Anyone wanting to reserve a table may call the Pike County Chamber of Commerce at 566-2294.
