Troy State softball team remains tops in NCAA

After winning 12 of its last 14 games, the Troy State softball team continues its strong showing in the latest NCAA statistical rankings released today.

The Lady Trojans entered the week with a 45-15 record and a .750 winning percentage, which ranks Troy State 21st in the nation in that category.

Troy State has won with a strong combination of offense, defense and pitching.

The Lady Trojans are 28th in the nation with a .292 batting average.

The pitching staff is ranked 18th in the nation with a 1.28 earned run average and the defense is 14th with a .969 fielding percentage.

Freshman pitcher Ashley Floyd continues her stay in the NCAA rankings as she is 37th in the nation with a 1.06 ERA.

Floyd has an 11-4 record and needs three wins to tie the freshman school record.

Junior closer Christi Curran broke the school-record for most saves in a season with her sixth against Belmont on Saturday. She is now in a tie for fifth in the nation.

Mississippi State’s Kellie Wilkerson leads the nation with 13 saves, breaking the NCAA single-season record.

Freshman catcher Tamra Howren has broken the single-season record for home runs and RBIs and makes her first appearance in the NCAA rankings, coming in 20th in the nation in RBIs per game. In 60 games this season, Howren has 53 RBIs, shattering the previous school-record of 50.

The Lady Trojans wrap up their regular season schedule with a doubleheader against No. 21 Florida State on Saturday.
