Troy State routs Lady Hornets, 9-0

Freshman Ashley Floyd allowed just four hits in her debut, as the Troy State softball team routed Alabama State, 9-0 in five innings, at the Lady Trojan Softball Complex on Tuesday afternoon.
"Ashley pitched a solid game for us today," said Troy State head coach Melanie Davis. "We were able to get our offense going and were able to play a lot of people today, which will help us later in the year."
The Lady Trojans (4-1) picked up their fourth straight win behind a strong offensive attack which featured 11 hits. Tamra Howren and Erin Flater both went 2-for-2, with Howren driving in two runs and scoring another, while Flater scored one run.
Floyd picked up the first outing, allowing just four hits, while striking out nine and walking one over five innings.
Troy State took a 1-0 lead in the first, as Howren’s double to left-center field drove home Peggy Swift to put the Lady Trojans on top.
TSU would take control in the second, scoring seven runs while sending 11 batters to the plate. Howren, Swift, Erica Cruzat, Molly Homer and Bonnie Belin all drove in a run in the second as the Lady Trojans took an 8-0 lead.
The Lady Trojans added another run in the fourth as pinch hitter Lori Westberg doubled to the left field wall, driving home Flater to put Troy State on top 9-0.
Alabama State’s (0-1) Danielle Scott was saddled with the loss. She pitched four innings, allowing 11 hits and nine runs, six earned, while walking four.
The Lady Trojans are back in action again on Friday as they travel to Monroe, La., for the Mardi Gras Classic.
