GAINESVILLE, Fla. – The Lady Trojans traveled to Gainesville this past weekend to compete in the University of Florida Gator Invitational. The meet was very competitive with 47 provisional qualifying marks and 11 automatic qualifying marks being set in the course of the weekend.

"This meet was the best quality meet we’ve been to so far this year. Our ladies again rose to the challenge and continued to improve turning some heads while they did," said TSU Women’s Coach Andy McCampbell.

The Lady Trojans were led by sophomore Sherion Taylor. In the triple jump, Taylor broke her own personal best by over two feet with a jump of 40’5 1/2, giving her a finish of fourth.

Taylor had a great series of jumps with all six of her jumps besting her former career best and old school record of 38’4 3/4.

"Sherion has a great chance of making the National qualifying mark of 41′ 1/2 in the near future," said McCampbell.

Taylor continued her domination in the 55m dash with a time of 7.44 (26th) moving her to third on the TSU all-time indoor list. Taylor was joined by freshman Shakena Crenshaw running 7.48 (28th) which moved her to fifth on the TSU all-time indoor list.

The Lady Trojans broke several other personal records while in Gainesville. Freshman Erin Doud ran a personal best of 5:26.60 (19th) in the mile run, improving her time by nearly five seconds moving her to 4th on the all-time TSU indoor list. She was joined by Belinda Bargmann who set an indoor personal best of 5:26.63 (20th). Sophomore Jennifer Lynch had another solid performance for the Lady Trojans in the 3,000m with her best time of 11:20.07 (19th).

The distance medley relay team consisting of Doud, Natalie Simmons, Julia Miller and Lindsey Minnihan continued their season’s strong performances finishing fourth overall with a time of 13:09.69.

"We have a special group of ladies on our track team. They keep it simple. They work hard, compete like there’s no tomorrow, and are a joy to be around. I am extremely proud of them," said McCampbell.

TSU relay team ranked 13th in the nation: Troy State’s 2001 4x100HH Shuttle Relay team was ranked 13th in the nation in the February 2002 issue of Track and Field News. The team consisted of Jesse Morrow, Joe Gillaspie, Desmon Newton, and Arrington Watkins. They ran a time of 58.38 at the Sea Ray Relays held at the University of Tennessee on April 14, 2001. Other teams on the list included Tennessee, who had a time of 54.73, and Florida who had a time of 54.93.
