Lady Trojans compete at UNC rumble

CHAPEL HILL, N.C.

­ Troy State’s women continued their indoor track and field season this weekend as they traveled to Chapel Hill, N.C. to compete at the University of North Carolina Blue Heaven Track and Field Rumble.

Troy State faced a tough field in Chapel Hill this weekend going up against some of the premier teams in the country.

Troy State’s 4×800 meter relay team finished sixth with a time of 10:26.41. The distance medley relay team comprised of Erin Doud, Julia Miller, Mandi Dyess and Jennifer Lynch finished 16th with a time of 13:06.65 ahead of in state rival UAB.

Freshman Belinda Bargmann finished 44th in the one mile run with a time of 5:35.65. Teammates Jennifer Lynch (49th, 5:48.19) and Malene By (57th, 6:01.10) also competed in the one mile run.

Katrina Lewis had another fine performance in the shot put with a throw of 39’2" (3rd on the all-time TSU records list).

Sophomore Sherion Taylor finished 21st in the triple jump with a distance of 37’1", her third best ever.

In the 400-meter dash Junior Natalie Simmons (1:02.43) and Sophomore teammate Erika Butler (1:07.21) finished 65th and 87th respectively.

Freshman Shakena Crenshaw from Pensacola’s Woodham High School, finished 79th with a time of 8.22 in the 60-meter dash preliminaries and finished 93rd in the 200-meter dash with a time of 28.01.

The Lady Trojans will continue their season February 10th when the travel to Gainesville, Fla. to compete in the Florida Invitational.
