DELAND, Fla. – Led by a solid defensive effort and 26 points by Robert Rushing, the Troy State men’s basketball team defeated Stetson, 94-68, in an Atlantic Sun Conference game at the Edmunds Center on Thursday night.

"We didn’t play as well as I would have liked, but we won," said Troy State head coach Don Maestri. "We shot the ball real well, especially with Robert (Rushing) and Ben (Fletcher) getting hot. Lamayn (Wilson) did a great job of passing the ball when he was doubled team which helped us on the offensive end."

The Trojans forced 32 Stetson turnovers, converting that into 27 points. Troy State was able to push the ball up the floor quickly, scoring 19 points on the Hatters in transition.

"We were able to force a lot of pressure on their guards tonight," Maestri said. "I was really proud of our defensive effort, especially on the boards, because they have some really good rebounders on their team."

Rushing’s 26 points set a new season-high, hitting six three-pointers in the game. Ben Fletcher scored 22, hitting four three-pointers, with Lamayn Wilson scoring 19 points and pulling down a team-high six rebounds. In all, Troy State had nine players to score.

"We got solid contributions from everyone on the team," Maestri said. "Rob Lewin, Lovell Craig and Marcus Millhouse gave us some quality minutes off the bench."

The Trojans jumped out early, taking an eight point lead, 18-10, on two free throws by Rushing.

Troy State (10-5, 6-2 A-Sun) extended its lead to 20, 46-26, on a dunk by Craig. The Hatters (5-10, 2-7 A-Sun) would hit two free throws in the last 10 seconds to cut the lead to 18 at the half.

Stetson would cut the Trojans lead to 13 early in the second half, but would get no closer, as Troy State would lead by as many as 35, before winning 94-68.

The win gives Troy State its 10th win of the season, tying the 1999-2000 Trojans as the fastest team to 15 wins in the Division I era.

Troy State continues its Florida road trip as it heads to Jacksonville to face the Dolphins in another key A-Sun game.
