ORLANDO, Fla. – Ali Roberts scored 17 points to lead three Central Florida players in double figures as the conference-leading Golden Knights posted a 65-52 win over Troy State in Atlantic Sun women’s basketball action on Monday night at UCF Arena.

Troy State (3-9, 2-3 A-Sun) hit a six-minute scoreless stretch in the first half, allowing the Golden Knights (10-6, 6-1 A-Sun) to stretch a three-point lead to 33-19 at halftime. In the second half, the Lady Trojans were outrebounded 33-17 and 54-38 for the game. TSU sliced its deficit to nine with less than eight minutes to play but could never get closer.

Chaquita Alexander finished with 14 points to lead the Lady Trojans, who lost their seventh straight and snapped a two-game winning streak against the Golden Knights.

"The difference in the game was our inability to make shots in the first half, when we were given good looks at the basket," Troy State head coach Jerry Hester said. "In the second half, the tempo of the game was so fast that we did a lot of substitution and were caught with a small lineup in the game. As a result, were outrebounded significantly. I thought that was the difference.

"But our kids are playing hard. They are scratching and clawing, and something good is going to happen to them down the line."

Troy State shot 31 percent for the game but hit just 25 percent from beyond the 3-point arc (7-28) and only 47 percent from the foul line (9-19). UCF shot 33 percent but hit 18-of-25 from the foul line and 11-of-17 in the second half.

Lanetra Cooks and Jessica Scala each added 12 points for UCF. Thea Herring had six points and 10 rebounds for Troy State.

The Lady Trojans return to action on Saturday at home against Campbell. Tipoff is set for 2 p.m. at Trojan Arena.
