Another reason to donate to United Way

Most understand how much good the Pike County United Way does.
But, there’s another reason to give to the United Way a tax deduction.
As 2001 comes to a close, there is still time to make donations to charity so those dollars can be included in tax returns filed in April.
In addition to being able to write off donations on those tax returns, you get the feeling of helping others.
In Pike County, the United Way provides funding to Alabama Easter Seals Society, American Red Cross, Boy Scouts, East Central Mental Health-Mental Retardation, Girl Scouts, Pike County 4-H Clubs, RSVP (Retired Senior Volunteer Program), the House of Ruth, Pike County Christmas Program, Troy Charity League, Salvation Army, Pike County YMCA, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Pike County, Colley Senior Complex and the Pike County Fire fighters Association.
Giving to the United Way helps those organizations provide goods and services for a large number of people, both young and old.
The Pike County United Way 2002 Campaign is underway and board members are hoping to fully fund agencies, in the upcoming year, but that can only be done with your donations.
Operating on a $100,000 budget, the Pike County United Way Board had to prorate funding to its agencies by 50 percent because fund-raising efforts were not successful, this past year. In 2000, about $97,000 was raised and, this year, the amount pledged was only $76,000. Plus, there are many outstanding pledges that haven’t been paid.
It’s easy to give. Send a check to P.O. Box 204, Troy, AL 36081 now and plan to give through payroll deduction in the future.
What better way is there to make Pike County a better place to live than having citizens help each other because all the money raised in Pike County stays in Pike County.
