Atkins named TSU Director of Compliance

Sandy Atkins has joined the Troy State Athletics Department as its Director of Compliance, TSU Athletics Director Johnny Williams announced this week.

A native of Sweet Water, Ala., and a 1995 Troy State graduate with a bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Atkins returns to her alma mater following a two-year stay as Assistant Director of Compliance at the Southeastern Conference office in Birmingham.

Atkins’ responsibilities at Troy State will include: monitoring and maintaining all records of Troy State student-athletes; serving as the department’s liaison to the NCAA; educating TSU coaches, athletes and boosters on NCAA rules and regulations; providing NCAA rule interpretations; and enforcement.

"We are excited about having Sandy back at Troy State," Williams said. "She brings tremendous knowledge and experience to this position, and we know she will be a valuable asset to our department and university."

While at Troy State from 1993-95, Atkins played two seasons on the Troy State softball team, earning all-conference honors both years. She also played two seasons at Shelton State Community College in Tuscaloosa, earning all-conference honors both seasons and All-America honors as a sophomore in 1993.

Following her graduation from Troy State in 1995, Atkins worked two years with Norwest Financial Group before beginning graduate school at the University of Kentucky. She earned her master’s degree in Sport Management from UK in 1999.
