Shooting leaves one man dead

A Tuesday night shooting left a Troy man dead and a Brundidge resident charged with murder.

Police say Tyronza Gerrall Walker, 21, of Troy, died from a single gunshot wound to the chest. He was shot during an apparent argument which took place in the 100 block of University Avenue.

Famondre Griffin, 21, of Brundidge, was charged with murder. Griffin’s bond was set at $75,000.

According to police reports, the shooting occurred at approximately 8:30 p.m. on the 100 block of University Avenue

near the Fillin’ Station. Officers responded to a "shots fired" call and upon arrival found Walker lying facedown with a gunshot wound to the chest. He was transported to Edge Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

Witnesses told police Walker and Griffin had been in an argument at the time of the shooting. Police said the incident remains under investigation and did not provide further details.

An employee of the Fillin’ Station station said he saw a group of people gathered nearby but did not hear the gunfire. Ray VanAllensaid he went to his truck "somewhere around" 9 p.m. Tuesday. He said he saw "a bunch" of people congregated nearby.

"I heard a lot of arguing and goings on, but didn’t pay too much attention to it," VanAllen said. "Stuff like that goes on all the time around here."

This is the fourth murder within the city limits this year.
