Shopping opportunities will be abound in Downtown Troy as businesses on and around the square will open their doors from 1-5 p.m. for Promenade Troy America.

Rather than "promenade" from one store to the other, the Pike County Chamber of Commerce Downtown Revitalization Committee has pulled together merchants and visual and performing artists to make Sunday afternoon one of the most interesting and enjoyable shopping experiences of the holiday season.

About two dozen visual and performing artists will take part in the event.

We hope everyone will avoid the crowds the big cities have to offer and will patronize local merchants who offer virtually everything local residents could want without the mobs, the parking space shortage and the safety factors that one must consider when shopping inside urban jungles. Plus, there is no mall in the big city that can compare to the small-town charm of shopping at home.

We encourage everyone to come out to the open houses in downtown and throughout Troy today.

Shopping at familiar stores with familiar faces is the perfect way to ring in the shopping season, while making Pike County’s economy a little stronger.
