Bulldogs, Trojans both face ranked opponents in first round

The Alabama Sports Writers Association released its final AHSAA state football poll on Tuesday night.

The first round of the state playoffs starts on Friday night.

Charles Henderson draws a tough opponent this week as they travel to play No. 8 McAdory (9-1) in Class 5A. Wilcox-Central, winners of Region 2 with a 12-0 victory over the Trojans last week, will host Demopolis. No. 3 Briarwood Christian plays host to Hillcrest-Evergreen.

In Class 3A Pike County fell out of the top ten following last week’s loss to Stanhope-Elmore. Strangely, the Bulldogs host Fultondale in Brundidge this Friday night. Fultondale, (9-1), is this week’s No. 9 team in Class 3A.

Luverne is No. 8 in Class 3A and hosts Ashville in the first round.

The top three teams in Class 2A are 10-0, with No. 1 Leroy playing host to Highland Home this week. No. 2 Houston County hosts Clay County, while No. 3 Fyffe hosts Hale County.

Region 2 Champion Goshen will host Excel at the Eagles’ Nest on Friday night. The Eagles received nine votes in the Class 2A poll to place them at No. 14.

The Brantley Bulldogs travel to play No. 2 Reeltown in Class 1A on Friday.
