BOCA RATON, Fla. –

Rachel Hassan had a match-high 18 kills, 20 digs and hit .325 but it wasn’t enough as the Troy State volleyball team saw its postseason chances disappear in a 3-1 loss at Atlantic Sun foe Florida Atlantic, Saturday.

The loss drops the Trojans to 9-12 overall and 4-6 in A-Sun play. By virtue of Campbell’s 3-2 win over Samford, the Camels move three matches ahead of the Trojans in the loss column with two matches remaining. TSU took advantage of a disorganized FAU team in game one and claimed a 30-24 victory thanks in large part to out-blocking the Owls. FAU responded with a 30-24 win in game two on the strength of five kills from Gracie Heim. Heim, who finished with 17 kills, gave the Owls the lead for good when she sparked a 10-4 run with the score knotted at 20. FAU won the match going away, with 30-21 and 30-26 wins in the final two games. Holly Martin had 10 kills and seven blocks for TSU, and Erika VanHootegem had 18 kills, nine digs and four aces.
