Pike County moved up a spot in the Class 3A State Football Poll, coming in this week as the No. 9 team in the state as released by the Alabama Sports Writers Association on Tuesday night.

The Bulldogs are riding a seven game win streak going into this Friday night’s match-up with Class 5A Stanhope-Elmore in Millbrook. No. 8 Lanett has already claimed the Class 3A Region 2 title, but the Bulldogs will be hosting a playoff game when the postseason begins next week.

Luverne took over Pike County’s vacated tenth position. The Tigers beat Straughn, 28-20, in a non-region game last week and are ranked for the first time this season.

Goshen received six votes for the Class 2A poll following last week’s 14-13 win over Highland Home. The Eagles will also host a Class 2A playoff game next Friday night and could be determined the Region 2 champs depending on the outcome of the Straughn-Red Level game, also this weekend. GHS travels to play Class 1A Pleasant Home for the regular season finale this week.

The Charles Henderson Trojans totalled two votes this week, but with an upset of No. 2 Wilcox-Central this week, could be determined the Class 5A Region 2 champions. Both Greenville and CHHS have two losses in the region with Wilcox the lone unbeaten. A loss by the Trojans on Friday, regardless of the outcome of the Greenville-Monroe County game, results in a third place finish and road trip in the first round of the playoffs for CHHS.

Glenwood fell from the ranks of the unbeaten with last week’s loss, making room for 10-0 Monroe Academy to claim the top spot. The playoffs start for all AISA schools this Friday night.
