Trojan fans everywhere are getting ready for the homecoming game this weekend against Southern Utah, and the Pike County Chamber of Commerce and Troy State University want to see just how much spirit hometown Trojans have.
To measure spirit across the community the chamber and TSU are holding a "Fan Appreciation Rally" from 6:30 p.m. until 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 25 at Sartain Hall.
"We want everyone to get involved and get excited about Troy State football," said Jenniffer Barner, community development director of the Pike County Chamber of Commerce. "The rally is the perfect way to get everyone motivated and ready for the game on Saturday."
At the TSU Fan Appreciation Rally Troy State and the Pike County Chamber of Commerce will be presenting a special "Community Spirit Award" to the business in Pike County with the most Troy State Spirit.
To participate in the "Community Spirit Award" contest businesses are encouraged to decorate with TSU colors, signs and other items.
Businesses that are interested in vying for the title must sign up at the Chamber office by Wednesday, Oct. 24. On Thursday, Oct. 25, the TSU cheerleaders will visit participating businesses and judge the decorations that show the most community spirit.
The winner will be announced at the Pep Rally and will receive the TSU "Community Spirit Flag." The winning business will gladly display the flag until the next pep rally when the competition for the "Spirit Award" will begin again. The winning business will also be recognized at the next home game during half-time ceremonies.
"We expect a lot of businesses to participate in the ‘Community Spirit Award’ contest since it is homecoming week," Barner said. "We encourage businesses to leave their decorations up through Saturday to show Southern Utah just how much spirit we have."
