The Pike Liberal Arts jumped up quick for the first touchdown of the game by Layton Sanders Friday night against Macon-East, but the Patriots were unable to hold out against the Knights, who won 27-7.

Sanders led the Patriots rushing for 85 yards of 15 carries and completed five of 12 passes for 84 yards. Lonnie Ward rushed for 59 yards on four carries. Drew Kilpatrick completed three of seven passes for 20 yards and Druid Conrad had three receptions for a total of 40 yards.

Defensively, Kevin Watkins had 11 tackles, Mark Brown had 10 tackles and Bill Hughes finished the game with 9 tackles.

Shortly after the Patriot touchdown Macon-East evened the score at 7-7 with a 9-yard scoring pass from Joseph Lee to Jason Riel.

The score remained 7-7 at the half.

The Patriots fought hard against the Knights, but early in the third quarter Macon-East tailback John Martin scored on a 3-yard run moving the Knights ahead for the first time of the night. Thirty seconds later a43-yard scoring pass from Lee to Knights fullback John Corbitt put the Knights above the Patriots 21-7.

In the fourth quarter Lee scored on a 2-yard run bringing the final score to 27-7.

The Patriots will play at home next Friday when they face Hooper in their third and final regional game of the season.
