finish third in opener
JACKSONVILLE, Ala. – The Troy State women’s golf team took third place in its first event of the season, firing a two-round total of 666 at the Gamecock Golf Classic on the par 72, Silver Lakes Golf Course.
Birmingham-Southern claimed the five-team championship, firing a final round 318 to finish at 60-over par, 636. Birmingham-Southern’s Laura McCaslin claimed individual medalist honors after shooting a one-over par 73, to post a six-over par total of 150. Troy State fired a final round of 328, improving ten shots after opening with a 338.
The Lady Trojans were led by Tracy Tidwell. Tidwell has the round of the day for TSU, firing a five-over par round of 77 to finish in fifth place at 158. Tidwell’s sister, Jenelyn, had the second best round of the day for the Lady Trojans, bouncing back from her opening 92 to shoot an eight-over par, 80 and finish in a tie for 16th.
Allyson Wills finished in 13th after posting a final round 87, ending with a total of 168 for the tournament. Lori Garrett finished in a tie for 18th in her TSU debut, shooting a 87 in the final round to finish at 173. Lynsey Williamson also made her Lady Trojan debut, firing a 12-over, 84, to finish in a tie for 20th at 174.
The Lady Trojans are back in action again on Monday as they participate in the UALR Women’s Intercollegiate.
