The Goshen High School Eagles will be celebrating homecoming as well this week, when they take the field on Friday night against the Georgiana Panthers.

After putting together consecutive wins over Barbour County and Gulf Shores to even up their record at 2-2, GHS dropped a critical regional game to Red Level last week on the road.

The Eagles were unable to contain the explosive running of Red Level’s Clinton Jackson. Jackson rushed for 249 yards and three touchdowns against the Goshen defense in a 35-17 win.

The loss dropped Goshen to 1-1 in area play, making tonight’s game critical as far as a second straight trip to the Class 2A state playoffs goes.

Last season, GHS was able to edge Georgiana 18-12 thanks in large part to a four-down defensive stand by the Goshen defense in the closing moments of the game.

Both teams come into tonight’s game with similar records at 2-3.

Despite the Eagles’ record, Goshen quarterback Averick Rogers continues to put up excellent numbers in his senior season. Last week Rogers completed 15-of-28 passes for 221 yards and two touchdowns.

Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m. at Eagles’ Stadium in Goshen.
