Meek High School’s Williams ties state record with five picks

Phillip Williams of Meek High School tied a state record with five pass interceptions in a game to move into the prep football spotlight selected by the Alabama High School Athletic Association.

A survey of football games statewide is made weekly.

Williams, running his season total to 10, picked off five passes from his cornerback position and caught four passes for 77 yards as a split end in a 33-7 win over Phillips. The sophomore also threw a touchdown pass and caught a two-point conversion pass. He shares the interception record with Charlie McCoy of Georgiana (1981)

Graeme McFarland of Mountain Brook completed 34 of 46 passes for 357 yards in a 28-14 victory over Vestavia Hills. The 34 completions rank second in state history behind the record 37 by Bernard Nomberg of Northview in 1987.

Dominique Cosper rushed for 291 yards and three touchdowns in Walter Wellborn’s 34-0 triumph over Cherokee County.

Josh McConico of Leroy ran for 217 yards and four touchdowns (67, 55, 38 and 32 yards) in a 64-0 victory over R. C. Hatch.

Kyle Trapp of Phil Campbell ran for two touchdowns and recorded 15 tackles, an interception and caused a fumble in a 42-0 win over Winston County.

Kelvin Anderson of Tallassee scored five touchdowns (8, 50, 33, 29 and 47 yards) in a 46-28 triumph over Elmore County.

Stevie Jackson hit 11 of 20 passes for 238 yards and two touchdowns in Austin’s 35-0 win over Sparkman.

Chris Brown rushed for 113 yards and four touchdowns and passed for 110 yards in Billingsley’s 50-0 victory over Fayetteville.

Blake Davidson of Hoover passed for 120 yards and ran 14 times for 167 yards in a 38-6 triumph over John Carroll.

Dusty Goodwin completed 13 of 20 passes for 203 yards and three touchdowns in Demopolis’ 32-20 win over Chilton County.

Demetrius King of Sheffield passed for three touchdowns, ran for a 47-yard TD and returned a fumble 23 yards for a score in a 59-6 triumph over Lexington.

Ira Tolbert of Marengo rushed for 203 yards and three touchdowns in a 63-0 victory over J. U. Blacksher.

Josh Stillings ran 23 times for 212 yards and three touchdowns in Jackson-Olin’s 54-28 triumph over Erwin.

Hale County, rallying from a two-touchdown deficit, gave Coach Danny Matherson his 100th career victory with a 27-13 victory over South Lamar.

Jamaal York of Blount hit 13 of 20 passes for 221 yards and a pair of touchdowns in a 21-0 win over Citronelle.

C. A. Williams set up two scores by blocking punts and caught a touchdown pass in Tuscaloosa County’s 35-14 triumph over Wenonah.

Hamp Davis recorded 14 tackles and two interceptions in Wetumpka’s 30-0 victory over B. T. Washington.

Sean Rowser of Saks rushed 11 times for 197 yards and three touchdowns in a 27-12 victory over Southside-Gadsden.

Zac Wakefield rushed for three touchdowns and passed for another in Winfield’s 27-21 triumph over Haleyville.

Garrett Nelson intercepted three passes in Mary Montgomery’s 28-7 win over Murphy.

Rico Albert of Prattville intercepted two passes in a 28-14 victory over Jeff Davis.

Abduluan Kuuan scored four touchdowns in Sylacauga’s 36-13 upset of Oxford.

Jake Tompkins of Russellville hit 10 of 17 passes for 209 yards and three TDS and also ran for a score in a 46-12 win over J. O. Johnson.
