GOSHEN – The Goshen Lady Eagles volleyball team improved to 5-2 on the season on Thursday, defeating Ariton in two out of three games.

Goshen won the second and third games by the scores of 16-14 and 15-13, respectively, bouncing back from a 15-12 opening match loss to Ariton.

Hope Wheeler brought the Lady Eagles back to tie the second game at 14-14 and she would end the game on her next two serves, aided by a Kesha Cope kill.

Ashley Miniard, who had 15 kills in the three game series, finished the third game with four straight serves to bring Goshen back from a 13-11 deficit.

Cope had eight of Goshen’s 12 points in the first game, but the Lady Eagles couldn’t recover from 10 sideouts offensively.

"We defeated Ariton earlier in the year, but after that we lacked some intensity," said Goshen head coach Dee Hughes. "I was proud of the way the girls rallied at the end of the last two games. These girls have come a long way in the last two years."
