Goshen dropped their first two games of the year to Billingsley (26-18) and Luverne (28-15). Tonight’s game will be the first regional contest for Goshen, runner-ups last year to Straughn High School in Class 2A Region 3.

Barbour County also has lost its first two ball games, including a 36-0 loss to region foe Georgiana last week.

Although Averick Rogers passed for 174 yards last week in Luverne, Goshen’s running game was unable to muster anything against the Tigers. Goshen had 26 total yards on the ground with Quez Burden totalling 32 yards on five carries. Rogers was sacked five times for -14 yards.

PLAS ALSO ON THE ROAD:

The Patriots of Pike Liberal Arts School will look to improve to .500 on the season when they travel to Selma to play Meadowview Christian Academy.

Meadowview ended the season at 5-5 last year, but are another Class 3A AISA opponent in which depth could prove to be too much of a factor for the Patriots to overcome.

The Patriots throttled AA Greenville Academy last Friday night, 54-42, led by Layton Sanders’ 298 yards through the air. GA scored touchdowns late in the game against the PLAS second stringers, making the score, at the least, somewhat respectable.

Meadowview utilizes a balanced offensive attack led by senior quarterback Chris Holbrook.
