The Troy Marlins were able to blank the Enterprise Braves 2-0 on Sunday and claim the 2001 Troy Amateur Baseball League Championship.

Rain cause the game to be called after just six innings, but that was enough time played for the Marlins to win the title.

Dax Pugh, Henry Lewis, Brent Newman, Terrance Boyd, Wes Johnson and Matt Floyd all combined for six Marlins’ hits in the first two innings to give Troy the early 2-0 lead. The Braves got two hits in the game, courtesy of Dick Smith and Thomas Shea before afternoon showers called a halt to the action.

Right-hand pitcher Jerrick Lewis was the winner on the mound for the Marlins, while Justin Hendrix took the loss for the Braves.

"We would like the thank the Troy Parks and Recreation Department, all the fans, players and coaches for their support during the 2001 TABL season," said league sports information director James Henderson. "This year was a great success and there were some great ballgames played. For those who were unable to attend the games, they sure missed a treat. But we’ll be back next season."

Henderson also wanted to congratulate the Troy Marlins on their win in the championship game.
