The Post 70 Junior Legion will be hosting one of the state’s district tournaments this week at Frazier Field.

The tournament started on late Monday afternoon with AUM taking on Hartford and then Troy facing off against Dale County in the late game.

The tournament is in double-elimination format and should last about four days, according to Troy head coach Russ Jinright.

"They loaded up our district with too many teams," said Jinright. "That’s why we were able to host one this year."

The district Troy is in has over 30 teams. G.W. Long and Opelika are the other district tournament hosts besides Troy.

Jinright feels that he has the pitching to "work through" these first few games without having to go to No. 1 hurler Wesley Wright. Wright’s arm has been hindered by soreness in the past week and Jinright would rather save him for the playoff game, which will be held on Saturday also at Frazier Field.

"We’ve got Justin (Sims) and Matthew Johnson. Justin and Wesley are about equal and Matthew has been doing a good job for us too," said Jinright.

The Troy Senior Legion will be on the road to Ariton on Tuesday to play baseball powerhouse Bay County of Florida. The start for the doubleheader is 4 p.m.
