Troy’s win puts them in title game

Troy American avenged a Tuesday night loss to Luverne and advanced to the championship game with a 6-0 win over the hosts of the sub-district tournament on Wednesday night.

Troy American played Greenville on Thursday night. Greenville drew the bye after beating Georgiana on Tuesday and Luverne and Troy, each with one loss, played each other for the right to advance.

Taylor Sunday, Chase Rogers, Chase Avant, Ricky Goodwin and Daniel Farrar all reached for Troy in the first inning and took a 2-0 lead when Sunday and Rogers came home to score.

In the second, Anthony Sherrer, Blake Sanders, Justin Henderson, Darion Wilson, Sunday and Jonathan Wade all reached with Sherrer, Sanders, Henderson and Wilson all scoring for Troy American.

Troy’s team had five hits on the evening and collected three walks from Luverne’s pitching to score all six runs. Sunday was the winning pitcher for Troy, striking out four batters and allowing just four hits. He walked none.
