Troy American team gets 4-2 win over Greenville to advance in sub-district

LUVERNE – The Troy Dixie Youth American team came out on top of pitcher’s duel in Luverne to win over Greenville 4-2.

Blake Sanders opened on the mound for Troy and pitched five and two-third innings before being struck by a line drive hit. The ball struck Sanders in the forehead and after several tense moments he was revived and taken off of the field. Sanders struck out five Greenville batters, gave up five hits and walked just one. Jonathan Wade came in to pitch for Troy and record the final out of the game.

Troy was held scoreless until the top of the sixth inning, thanks to Greenville pitcher Caleb Blackburn. Blackburn kept Troy off-balance at the plate, but was replaced by Len Lewis in top of the fifth after issuing two walks.

Lewis walked four Troy batters and hit one, Ryan Long, with a pitch. Tyler Wise, Anthony Sherrer, Justin Henderson and Darion Wilson all reached base on balls in the sixth inning. Long, Wise, Sherrer and Henderson all scored for Troy.

Troy had three hits on the night.

The Troy Americans played Luverne on Tuesday night.
