Nationals win title, Americans one away

Troy National defeated Greenville on Saturday night 12-1 to win the Dixie Minor Sub-District Tournament in Highland Home.

Troy will advance to district competition in Eufaula which starts on July 11.

Anthony McBride led Troy with two doubles and William Teal and Jake Smith also added two hits each for Troy. Will Starling, Alex Adams, Ross Hixon, Wesley Hayes, Wesley Taylor, Jared Rogers, and David Fleming also had hits for Troy.

Smith pitched all four innings for Troy to pick up the win. He struck out eight batters and gave up only four hits.

In Enterprise on Friday night, Enterprise Nationals’ pitcher Trey Smith scattered four hits over six innings and struck out four as the Nationals overcame being no-hit to pull out an improbable 2-1 victory over previously unbeaten Troy in sub-district action.

Enterprise scored both its runs in the fifth off of two walks and an error, Smith and Chris Morris accounting for the runs.

Despite the loss, Troy got the bye into the championship game. They face the Enterprise Nationals in the rubber match of the tournament for the sub-district title.

Dario Rouse, Bradley Floyd and Clifton Brady combined for the no-hit Troy pitching performance, striking out 12 Enterprise batters and setting down 13 in a row at one point.

Troy’s four hits came from Logan Stewart, Dontae Harris, Rouse and Andrew Johnson. Johnson also scored Troy’s lone run.
