Troy Dixie Majors ousted from tourney by Luverne

Troy came back from an 8-0 deficit on Tuesday at the Dixie Majors Sub-District Tournament in Opp, but were unable to overcome Luverne’s lead and were eliminated from tournament play 13-10.
Troy started a rally with two runs in the third inning as Chris Nickson came home on a Wes Johnson double and Johnson scored on a sacrifice fly by Matt Floyd.
Luverne was able to add three runs in the fourth and two in the fifth.
Troy’s Elijah Daniel scored on a Nickson single, who also touched home plate in the inning, making it 11-4 in favor of Luverne.
Troy slowly chipped away at the lead, adding another run in the fifth. Floyd scored on a wild pitch and Troy had its biggest inning of the game in the sixth. Troy sent eight batters to the plate with three runners scoring. Scott Kirby led off the inning with a triple. Adam Helms drove in a runner with a basehit as did Kelvin Tolver. Brandon Hooks added a single RBI as well.
After Daniel led the seventh off with a double, Troy used three straight walks by the Luverne pitcher to add two runs in the inning, with Daniel and Kirby each coming home.
Troy used three pitchers in the game with Hooks, Nickson, and Marcus Jones all seeing time on the mound. Luverne had 14 hits in the game and were led by Robert Drive’s 3-for-4 effort, which included two doubles, and a single and home run by Rusty Tomlin.
