Troy Dixie Angels rip Elba, 13-1

The Troy Dixie Angels were led by Erica Henderson’s 3-for-3 effort at the plate and eliminated Elba from the Angels Sub-District Tournament on Monday night, 13-1.

Henderson had a double and two home runs to lead the Troy team, who faced Andalusia on Tuesday night for the sub-district championship.

Troy took control of Monday night’s game quickly, scoring five runs on four hits, including Henderson’s double. In the second inning, Troy added six more runs on six hits.

Whitney Sanders was 3-for-3 also for Troy, while Meghan Ellis was 2-for-2. Jodi Long and Kasee Carter each had two hits and Kelli Ann Sanders had one hit.

Long earned the win for Troy, pitching the first two innings and striking out four. Bobbi Jo Strother struck out one batter and gave up no hits in her third inning appearance and Carter closed on the mound for Troy, giving up one hit, walking two and striking out three.

Our error: Troy beat Andalusia 12-10 in Saturday’s game, not 12-0 as was originally reported.

Andalusia was up 10-6 over Troy in the third inning, before Troy scored one run in the fourth and five runs on six hits in the fifth and final inning to win the ball game.

Troy used four pitchers in the game with Carter picking up the win in last two innings of the game. Carter struck out four batters and gave up no hits.

Strother, Carter, Jazmen Seymore and Courtney Kelly had two hits each to lead Troy.

Kelli Ann Sanders, Keyani Foster, Whitney Sanders and Kelsey Minor had hits as well for Troy.
