Benton Alexander Money, 69, of Demopolis died Sunday, July 1, 2001 at his residence.

Services will be at 2 p.m., Thursday, July 5 at Fairhaven Baptist Church in Demopolis with the Revs. Allen Atkins and Percy Clark officiating. Burial will be at Demopolis Memorial Gardens with Kidd-Robbins Funeral Directors directing.

Survivors include his wife, Estelle S. Money of Demopolis; one daughter and son-in-law, Dianne M. and Dan Smith of Troy; one son and daughter-in-law, Steven W. and Sherril Money of Tuscaloosa; four grandchildren, Emily and Jake Smith of Troy, Melissa and Taylor Money of Tuscaloosa.

Mr. Money was retired from Alabama Power Company with 40 years and six months of service. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was a dedicated Christian and member of Fairhaven Baptist Church. "Papaw," as he was lovingly called, found joy in life through his work, working in the yard and fishing. The world is a sadder place today without his love, compassion and zest for life, but we find our hope, strength and courage in the love and mercy of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Pallbearers will be Kerry Burnett, Dan Burnett, Rex Burnett, Ken Mays, Dale Newton and Christ Newton. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Larry Thead and staff, Robert Thornton, active and retired Alabama Power employees (Walking-Talking Group) and employees of Southern Care Hospice.

Visitation will be 6-8 p.m., Wednesday, July 4 at Fairhaven Baptist Church. The body will line in state one hour prior to the service.

Sarah Gertrude Newman

Sarah Gertrude Newman, 85, of Troy died Monday, July 2, 2001 at Jackson Hospital in Montgomery.

Services will be at 11 a.m., Thursday, July 5 at Dillard Funeral Home Chapel in Troy with the Rev. Marvin Jackson officiating. Burial will be at Belser Cemetery in Goshen with Dillard Funeral Home of Troy directing.

Survivors include four sons, Billy Newman of Ft. Davis; James Earl Newman of Montgomery, Bobby Newman of Troy and Wallace Newman of Luverne; sisters, Mary Taylor of Prattville and Edna Rushing of Indiana; brothers, Winford Ingram of Denver, Colo. and Julius Ingram of Montgomery.

Visitation will be 6-8 p.m., Wednesday, July 4 at Dillard Funeral Home in Troy.

Sam Murphree

Sam Murphree, 98, of Troy died Tuesday, July 3, 2001 at his home.

Services will be at 2 p.m., Thursday, July 5 at First Baptist Church of Troy with the Revs. Ellis Bush, Kevin Mcleod and Pete Carter officiating. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery on Knox Street with Dillard Funeral Home of Troy directing.

Mr. Murphree was a former mayor of Troy and served on the Troy City Council for 20 years. He was a graduate of Auburn University with a degree in civil engineering. He was treasurer of Goodwin-Murphree Bridge Company and president of Murphree Bridge Company until his retirement in 1976. At one time, Mr. Murphree was the oldest active pilot in Alabama.

Survivors include his wife, Sara Murphree of Troy; sons and daughters-in-law, Tom and Susan Murphree of Troy, Sam Jr. and Janet Murphree of Columbus, Ga.; eight grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren and one brother, Joel Dyer Murphree III of Troy.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Melanie Murphree; sister, Mary Sue Swan and brother, Edwin Murphree.

Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church of Troy.

Pallbearers will be members of hte Baracca class at First Baptist Church.

Visitation will be 1-2 p.m., Thursday at First Baptist Church of Troy.

Myrtle Mae Arthur Boutwell

Myrtle Mae Arthur Boutwell, 98, of Troy, formerly of the Victoria Community, died Monday, July 2, 2001 at Edge Regional Medical Center.

Services will be at 2 p.m., Thursday, July 5 at Victoria Baptist Church. Burial will be at the Victoria Baptist Church Cemetery with Dillard Funeral Home of Brundidge directing.

Survivors include one daughter and son-in-law, Hilda and Rex Warren of Slocomb; one son and daughter-in-law, John A. and Judy L. Boutwell of Victoria; daughter-in-law, Betty Boutwell of Victoria; nine grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Louico A. Boutwell Sr.; son, L.A. Boutwell Jr.; daughter, Jeannine B. Hale; grandson, David Hale and great-granddaughter, Brooke Warren.

Visitation will be 6-8 p.m., today at Dillard Funeral Home in Brundidge. There will be a one-hour lie-in-state prior to the service.
