Marlins, Braves win two in TABL

The Troy Amateur Baseball League recently opened its season over at Frazier Field on the campus of Charles Henderson High School.

Two games were played on Sunday with the Troy Marlins defeating the Troy Pirates by the final score of 10-0. The Enterprise Braves beat the Red Sox of Skipperville-Ozark 15-7 in the second game of the doubleheader.

in the first contest the Marlins turned four Pirates’ errors into seven total runs to take a big early lead.

The Marlins were led by Nick Pope and Adam Diggers who each had two hits on the day. Chris McLendon and Steve Garrett also added hits for the Marlins.

Johnny Calhoun had two hits to lead the Pirates while Brandon Henderson and Shea Mobley each added hits as well.

Garrett took the win for the Marlins. Henderson was charged with the loss for the Pirates.

In the second game the Braves were able to hold off a late rally by the Red Sox and claim a 15-7 win.

The Braves scored two runs in the first and second inning, five runs in the third and three in the fourth.

Jason McKenzie had four hits in five at-bats for the Braves, while Justin Hendrix added a single and back-to-back home runs in the third and fourth innings respectively. Jack Kirkland added three singles for the Braves as did Jason Thrash. Thomas Shae, Steven Whitaker, Todd Riles and Richard Smith all had hits as well for the Braves.

The TABL will return to action this Thursday night when the Indians of Midland City will play the Red Sox. Game time is at 7 p.m.

There will also be a doubleheader on Sunday, July 1 with the Pirates taking on the Braves at 2 p.m. and the Indians playing the Marlins at 4:45. All games are at CHHS’s Frazier Field.
