TSU to hold summer soccer camp

Troy State University will be holding a soccer day camp on June 18-22.

The camp is aimed at developing soccer skills and techniques for youngsters between the ages of six to 14. The main purpose of the camp will is to allow the campers to enjoy the game of soccer and will involve plenty of playing time on the field.

Fees for the camp are $80 (8:30 a.m.-noon) and $130 (8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m.). The afternoon session is for nine years or older campers only. Participants must bring their own lunch or lunch money. The cost of the camp includes: camper registration, facility fee, camp shirt and camp insurance.

Deadline for early registration is June 8 and the camp will be held at the lower intramural field on Pell Avenue on the campus of Troy State University.

The camp will be run by TSU head soccer coach Qasim Sheikh, who recently completed his second year at Troy State. Sheikh joined the TSU staff in 1999 after coaching at Tennessee Tech University for two years where he was named Ohio Valley Conference Coach of the Year. Sheikh started and completed his collegiate playing career at the University of the South in Sewanee, Tenn. During his career as a player, Sheikh was a two-time team captain and a two-year regional All-American. Sheikh holds his National and Advanced Soccer Coaching Diplomas awarded by the National Soccer Coaches Athletic Association, and his "B" license, awarded by the United States Soccer Federation.
