Horace Jones, 86, of Dozier died Saturday, June 2, 2001 at Edge Regional Medical Center.

Services will be at 11 a.m., Friday, June 8 at Springfield Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Donny Harris officiating. Burial will be at Springfield Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery with Harrison Funeral Home directing.

Mr. Jones was born Aug. 4, 1914 in Pike County to Selmer Jones and Delia Cannon Jones. He was a sergeant in the U.S. Army, in which he served from April 6, 1943 to Dec. 7, 1945, and was a veteran of Asian Pacific Theater. He was a member of Springfield Missionary Baptist Church.

Survivors include one son, Mr. Horace James Jones; two granddaughters, Ms. Chiquita Marie Jones of Baltimore, Md. and Mrs. Sheri Thompson and her husband, Lamont, of Adairville, Ky.; five great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Rubie Daniels May of Birmingham and Mrs. Ruth Daniels Moss of Mitchville, Md.; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Ret. Sgt. Luther L. and Marie Daniels of Clarksville, Tenn., Mr. Rufus and Blanche Daniels of Mitchville; one sister-in-law, Ina E. Jones of Brantley; one brother-in-law, Llwellyn J. Tanner of Waverly, Fla.; several cousins, nieces, grand nieces, nephews and grand nephews.

Visitation will be noon until 6 p.m. today at Harrison Funeral Home.
