Drew Martin’s basehit RBI in the top of the seventh spoiled a superb pitching performance by Troy Post 70’s Wesley Wright and gave Northview a 4-3 victory in the final game of the Troy Summer Classic on Sunday.

Wright struck out 12 batters, gave up five hits and three runs before being replaced by Blake Phelps in the seventh inning. Phelps and the Post 70 defense were able to record two outs before Martin’s hit into left field drove in what proved to be the winning run.

Three of Wright’s allowed five hits

came in the sixth inning when Northview tied the game up 3-3. Brandon Ward led off the inning with a single into the right field gap and was moved over by Drew Martin’s sacrifice bunt. Clint Robinson followed with a run-scoring ground rule double

and Chris Mckeel’s single drove in the tying run.

After Phelps grounded out to start off Troy’s half of the seventh, Luke Sanders reached first on a base hit and Chase Kelly was walked by Northview relief pitcher Jason Hightower. However, Northview recorded the final out of the game off a Clint Pugh line drive.

Phelps gave Troy their initial lead of the game in the second inning with a single, scoring Tyson Pugh. Wright drove in Justin Sims and Jarvis Woods with a double in the bottom of the third to give Troy the 3-0 lead.

Clint Pugh added a single also for Post 70.

Dustin Pruitt was the winning pitcher for Northview, spending six innings on the mound. Pruitt gave up four hits, struck out four and walked four.
