After an executive session at an special-called meeting, the Pike County Commissioners voted to amend the contract for Mark Tyner, who will report to duties as county administrator on July 29.

Tyner’s contract was amended to add $1,250 for relocation expenses, in accordance with section 36-7-40 of the Code of Alabama. That statute states the reimbursement can not exceed $1,250.

The commission also chose BellSouth for its Internet service provider at a cost of $959.40 per year, which will be a savings of $7,400 annually. The current provider is Troy Cable at a cost of $8,397.84 per year.

Although the employment of a switchboard operator was on the agenda, no action was taken on that matter.

"We didn’t budget for this slot," commission Chairman Willie Thomas said of the position that will pay $5.85 per hour.

Until someone is hired, other courthouse employees will operate the system. Two people from each office will be trained to use the new phone system.

Employees will be moving back to the courthouse at the end of the month. Existing phones will be transferred to the courthouse at 5:30 p.m. Friday, June 1. The new system will be ready by June 13.

Commissioners Larry Meeks and Karen Berry did not attend the special meeting held at the Pike County Road Department.
