Dates for the 2001 Alabama Parks and Recreation Department’s sub-district, district and state baseball and softball tournaments were announced last week.

Tournaments will officially start on June 29 around the Pike County area when the Troy Dixie Angels tournament team will travel to play in the sub-district at Andalusia.

Tournament play will continue

well on into August with the winner of each state tournament advancing to the World Series, held in various places throughout the

southeast and southwest.

Troy will play host to two tournaments this rec season. The first is the Dixie Youth Nationals Sub-District Tournament, which will be held on July 6-13. Winners of that tournament will move on to the Dixie Youth District tourney in Columbia-Webb on July 15-21.

There will be no sub-district tournament in Dixie Boys 13 and 14 year olds, but Troy will host both age categories in their respective districts on July 6-14.

This year there will also be Dixie Belles Sub-District tournament whereas in the past there has just been a district. The sub-district for Belles will be held in Opp with the winner there moving on to Ozark for districts.

Troy hosted the Dixie Belles (13-15) District Tournament last season with the Troy team going unbeaten throughout to claim the title.
