After losing several close low scoring games throughout the second half of the 2001 regular season, the bottom finally fell out for the Charles Henderson High School fast pitch softball team.
In what has to be considered their worst performance of the spring, the Lady Trojans were drilled by Enterprise 10-0 on the road late Thursday afternoon. To make matters worse, it was the first time the Lady Trojans were defeated by the 10-run rule since their first year in fast pitch in 1998. After being 12-8 one month ago, CHHS has lost seven of its last 10 games.
The tone for the game was set in the top of the first when Laura Wesley singled and Kelly Miller walked with one out but was unable to score. As a result, the momentum quickly shifted to the Lady Wildcats as they scored three runs and never looked back.
Enterprise starting pitch Amanda Edwards shutout the Lady Trojans (15-15) for the second time this season, allowing only two hits while walking two and striking out seven batters. The lone other hit was collected by freshman Brittany Carlisle on a one out single in the top of the fifth.
Meanwhile, the news was much better for the CHHS junior varsity as the Lady Trojans ended the season with a five-game winning streak defeating the Enterprise junior varsity 5-4 finishing the season 16-11. No further information was given at press time.
The Lady Trojans hope to regroup this Monday afternoon when they host the Robert E. Lee Lady Generals to begin the final week of the regular season. The first pitch is set for 4:30 p.m. at Field 8 of the Troy SportsPlex.
