Trojans swept by UCF

Troy State fell in both games of a doubleheader against Trans America Athletic Conference opponent Central Florida, 7-2 and 5-4, at Riddle-Pace Field on Saturday. The Golden Knights swept the three-game series, also winning Friday’s game, 8-2.

In the first game of the day, the Trojans posted their only two runs in the bottom of the third with a RBI single by junior Lance Newman and a passed ball that scored senior Ryan Petersen. UCF’s Jason Arnold pitched the complete seven-inning game and earned his ninth win of the season, allowing two runs off of seven hits. Senior Mickey Oquinn drops to 3-4 on the year after allowing eight hits and six runs in the first four innings.

UCF took the second game with a sacrifice fly to center field by designated hitter Bill Oakley that broke a 4-4 tie in the top of the seventh inning that was left unanswered by Troy State.

The Trojans are in action again on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. when they face Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg, Miss. Troy State continues conference play next weekend at Jacksonville for a three-game TAAC series.
