The community service club of local professionals is diligently working to make improvements at Murphree Park, one of Troy’s oldest gathering places.

Renovating the park has been an idea tossed around for a year and the fund-raising efforts have been underway the past couple of months.

Although plans are to purchase playground equipment on May 1 (and have it delivered six weeks later), it will not only be a place for children.

The club wants to create a 10-station fitness station for adults and the city of Troy is working to upgrade the walking trail by adding lighting. Addition of a new parking lot is also in the plans.

The steel and industrial-strength plastic playground equipment and new additions will not be the only things that make the park special.

But, the club’s members can not single handedly complete the project. They need help in raising the money to make the renovation possible. Whether it’s a dollar, $50 or more, every bit of it will go right back into the community we all call home.

For those who can not give from their pockets, they can give of their hearts and muscles.

The Murphree Park project will be a true community effort because plans are to have the community do it as a labor of both physical and financial means.

We applaud the Exchange Club for taking on such a project. It is sure to be one in which the community can be proud to call its own.

Being responsible for such a big undertaking shows the club’s members genuinely care about the Troy community and it’s children.
