The winner of the 2001 Miss Brundidge Pageant will walk away with the title, a $2,000 scholarship and a chance to compete in the National Peanut Festival Pageant in the fall.

Jenny Davis, coordinator of the Brundidge pageant, said a raffle for a Carter Brothers Go-Kart will fund the scholarship for the second year.

"We are proud to be able to offer this scholarship to Miss Brundidge," Davis said. "We wouldn’t be able to offer the scholarship without the support of Carter Brothers and we do appreciate their interest in the youth of our community."

The alternates in the Miss Brundidge pageant will receive cash prizes.

The Annual Miss Brundidge and Little Miss Brundidge Pageant will be held at 6:30 p.m. Saturday April 28, at the Pike County Elementary School gymnasium and there is still time to enter.

Little Miss Brundidge will also represent the town at the National Peanut Festival Little Miss pageant.

"Both Miss and Little Miss Brundidge will have this wonderful opportunity to represent their community," Davis said. "They will also represent Brundidge at other events and functions throughout the year, so their roles are very important."

Contestants for the Miss Brundidge title must be between the ages of 17 and 21 and must be a resident of Pike County. If the contestant is a university student, she must have either a county birth certificate or have graduated from a county high school.

In addition to the Miss and Little Miss titles, the pageant will feature age divisions from 4 years through 16.

"The contestants in the other divisions will not advance to the National Peanut Festival, but the pageant gives them the opportunity to be on stage and to meet new friends," Davis said. "And, too, it’s just a lot fun."

Applications will be provided to all county schools and may also be picked up at Southeast Alabama Gas District in Brundidge.
