Amanda Edwards tossed a one-hit shutout as the Enterprise High School Lady Wildcats breezed past the Charles Henderson High School Lady Trojans 7-0 in fast pitch softball action at the Troy SportsPlex late Thursday afternoon.

Edwards was dominant throughout the day retiring the first 19 batters she faced before Emily Watkins reached on an error to snap the perfect game. Two batters later, Kelly Miller snapped the no-hit bid of Edwards by reaching first base on an infield single before striking out Rachel Spurlin to end the game. Edwards went the distance striking out nine batters without giving up a walk while forcing the Lady Trojans to hit into nine ground ball outs.

The Lady Wildcats got all of the offense they would need in the top of the second inning. After Spurlin retired the side in the top of the first, Enterprise (10-6) started being more aggressive at the plate by hitting early in the count. The adjustment paid off as Vicki Potter reached on a double and Chasity Chancellor beat out an infield hit after just two pitches from Spurlin. Three pitches later, Lindsay Jones nailed a 1-1 pitch deep over the center field fence for a three run homer giving the Lady Wildcats a 3-0 lead.

In the final three innings, Enterprise broke the game open scoring one run in fifth, two in the sixth and one in the seventh inning to provide the final winning margin.

With the exception of giving up the three run homer in the second, Spurlin pitched exceptionally well going four innings allowing three runs on four hits while walking

and striking out one batter.

Freshman Brittany Carlisle came in and pitched the final three innings in relief. Carlisle allowed four runs on seven hits while walking one and striking out three.

The Lady Trojans (8-8), who were coming off a 12 day layoff following a 4-3 loss to Eufaula on March 22, begin a two week road swing today when they travel to Dothan to face Northview. The first pitch is set for 4 p.m.
